How This Donor began their Giving Journey with USA for UNHCR

Alane Adams began her generous giving journey with USA for UNHCR in the wake of the Russian Federation’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Alane has been a longtime humanitarian, formerly serving on the Los Angeles chapter of UNICEF USA’s Board of Directors. In addition to her work helping children and refugees, Alane is an award-winning author and literacy advocate.

Alane credits Angelina Jolie’s work with refugees as the initial inspiration behind her own interest in working with USA for UNHCR. Jolie’s book, Notes from My Travels, which details her experiences traveling to different refugee crises in her role as a Goodwill Ambassador for UNHCR, was particularly insightful for Alane, giving her greater insight into the plight of refugees.

Now, supporting refugees through USA for UNHCR’s work has become part and parcel to Alane’s passion for trying to understand the world and trying to make the world a better place. “I always want to make a difference. It doesn’t matter if you give $1,000,000 or $100,000 or $10,000 or $50 — you want to feel like you made a difference as a human being, as an individual. You want to feel like you cared, that it mattered and that you did what you could.”
